I know I said this before about Thunder Road, but I do believe Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here is the most perfectly crafted pop song ever recorded. That is all.
Comments:
That is my favorite Pink Floyd song - mostly because my friend Emily from Hallmark really loved it. And she had this blue Beta fish that always reminded her of the song. And now I too have a Beta fish, although it is red, so I think of the song everytime I feed the darn fish!
I almost hate to admit liking it as much as I do. It's like saying your favorite Radiohead song is Karma Police or Creep. Those are the two you're most likely to have heard, and not the ones a devoted fan would pick. But while I am endlessly appreciating the more esoteric songs of Pink Floyd's opus (such as, in no particular order, One Of These Days, If, When The Tigers Broke Free, their entire Animals album) I still find myself singing to Wish You Were Here every time I hear it, and not every getting sick of it. And that's something.
RE: Radiohead, Creep is indeed a magnificent song, but Karma Police was maybe the sixth best song on the album it came from. Never understood that. Current obsessive Radiohead favorite-- Pyramid Song.
Yeah, it is not easy to admit as being a favorite, especially given the library of material available.

And on that note, much to my dismay, I like the Foo Fighters cover of "Darling Nikki" from Prince... surely that is a sign of the apocalypse.
