Like alcoholism, mafia involvement is not necessarily something that a loved one will be prepared to admit to. It is therefore very important that wives or significant others recognize early the symptoms of mob-ism. It is treatable when identified early, but can become chronic if left unchecked.
(Important note: while we realize that in today's working environment, the household breadwinner is just as likely to be female as male, extensive research into mob-ism-- we have seen every episode of The Sopranos and own all the Godfather movies as well as Goodfellas and Miller's Crossing-- has turned up zero cases wherein the wife earned a living in the mafia and the husband did not. It would appear that mob-ism is an exclusively male condition.)
